“ Find your area of interest, your niche, to really provide the best coaching services to clients. Be patient with yourself as you explore your chosen path.”
Coaching became of interest to me seeing positive changes in lives of individuals who sought coaching services. Working with various businesses, those in education, and also in prevention services, I became keenly aware of how coaching provided opportunities, outside of the mental health environment, for me to see new ways to work with people - which was life changing. I decided to obtain the education, training and board certification to become a life coach. The work has been very rewarding seeing positive outcomes with clients.
Life coaching, when used many years ago, during my training to be a mental health counselor and choosing my path, opened up my personal exploration of where I wanted my professional career. Coaching proved to be so valuable in creating my counseling niche and chosen client base.
My most rewarding aspect of my coaching career has been to see the change made in one particular situation working with a young professional, utilizing the processes, establish their goals, change a direction in the educational path, and actually choose a profession which has served them well. It is exciting to hear later the benefits of clients who sought coaching services and learning about their successes.
As I retired from Clinical Mental Health counseling this past year, I decided to continue Life Coaching. It was not on the plan yet until seeing and hearing the requests, this decision was made. Challenges in the past were finding the balance between clinical counseling and coaching/consulting. Now, in retirement, opening and revisiting the option to work, I chose to be a part time coach and consultant so I can continue to enjoy retirement, have fun, and practice what I teach clients - balance.
The features I like best include the ease to integrate the various aspects of the platform, from scheduling, communicating with clients, to developing courses for the public to use. I have an email system to communicate what is upcoming in the practice (part-time) and also to share on-line course information for self-directed courses on specific life /executive coaching current and timely topics.
