Where we stand on AI in coaching

A lot of coaching organisations we've spoken to this year have asked us what Delenta thinks about AI. The honest answer is that we've been working on it for two years, talking to coaching businesses across the globe the entire time, and we've finally got something worth showing. Delenta-i (i as in Intelligence built to scale coaching), launches in mid-June.

Before we launch, I want to put down what we actually believe.
Not the marketing version. The real one.

The thing I keep coming back to

AI can produce infinite content. Endless summaries, suggestions, advice, plans. What it
can't do is sit across from someone and notice that the thing they said five minutes ago contradicts the thing they just said. It can't tell when someone is rationalising. It can't be
the safe person in a difficult conversation. That's coaching, and the people doing it well are about to become more valuable, not less.

So when we built Delenta-i, we started from something the coaches kept telling us. AI should help coaches and clients at the right levels. The trusted coaching relationship is where the actual transformation happens. AI can do the work around the work, but coaching is more than that and replacing the coach with AI produces something that isn't really coaching. It should not replace the coach.

In practice, that means we build two kinds of AI.

- AI that helps coaches - taking notes, surfacing insights, matching clients to coaches in multi-coach programmes, drafting summaries.
- And AI that helps clients between sessions in scoped, configurable ways of answering questions about resources their coach has shared, supporting goal reflection,
nudging on actions.

Coaching company owners decide how AI shows up in their own programmes. Anything beyond defined scope routes back to the coach. The coaching itself is the conversation that does the actual work, stays human.

The EU AI Act is making the same distinction this year, separating limited-risk AI assistance from high-risk AI conversation. Delenta-i sits clearly in the assistance
category, by design.

What is Delenta-i?

In a nutshell, Delenta-i is the intelligence layer for coaching organisations. It includes an
AI notetaker that drafts session notes you review before anyone else sees them, AI-assisted coach matching for firms running multi-coach programmes, dashboards that show corporate sponsors programme progress without showing them what was said in any session, and Ask Delenta AI a configurable assistant for both coaches and clients, scoped to support the work without replacing the relationship.

Each of these was built on the principles above, not the other way around.

What we deliberately don't do

We don't train AI models on your sessions. Not ours, not anyone else's.
Your conversations are not data we exploit.

We don't give coaching firm admins or sponsors access to what was said in individual sessions. They see aggregated patterns. They don't see your conversation.
This is a hard line for us, even when customers ask for it.

We don't release AI outputs to participants without you in the loop. Every note, every summary, every suggested action goes through the coach first. If AI says something that's wrong or unhelpful, the coach catches it before the client sees it.

And we don't put AI in the seat across from a client.
Coaching is the work of noticing what isn't said, sitting with someone in a difficult moment, and being a steady presence while they change. AI can summarise a conversation. It can't be the safe person on the other side of it. AI helps. The coach coaches.

Compliance and confidentiality

If you sell coaching into corporate organisations, you're going to be asked the AI questions soon, if you haven't been already. Procurement teams, CHROs, legal departments & all of them are tightening their AI vendor reviews this year, and your platform choice will sit in the middle of that review.

This is where we want to make your life easier. Delenta is ISO 27001:2022 certified, GDPR, and HIPAA compliant. The data sits in accredited infrastructure. We've helped customers pass vendor risk assessments at banks and large enterprises. Our security pack is available to anyone who needs to share it with their client's IT or procurement team.

A note on other notetakers such as Fireflies, Fathom, Otter, Read. Please read their terms. The free versions of several of these allow your inputs to be used for model training, and the data may not stay in your client's jurisdiction. We brought a specialist AI lawyer to our community recently to walk coaches through exactly this. If you're using anything in a paid coaching context, you should know what you've signed up for. The ICF has published checklists, please use them.

When it comes to consent, every notetaker, including ours, requires the client's consent before recording. The platform makes that easy. But it's still your responsibility as the coach, and the ICF code of ethics is clear, get consent, share the recording with the client afterwards, document that you did both. We've built on that, not around it.

What's coming next

The thing we're most excited about for later this year is wearables. Apple Watch, Garmin, the rest. We didn't start here, we got here because the coaching organisations we work with kept telling us their corporate clients want proof that coaching changes behaviour beyond the session. When a participant agrees to share their data, we can start showing coaching ROI in a way nobody else can  actual physiological signals correlated with coaching engagement. Same consent rules, same anonymisation for sponsors. It changes the conversation with HR completely.

Alongside that, we're developing Ask Delenta AI further for both coaches and clients deeper insight tooling for the coach side, richer between-session support for the client side, always scoped and always with the coach in the loop on anything consequential.

But the product is only half of what we're investing in. AI used well will make coaching companies more successful, better client outcomes, stronger renewals, more capacity to grow without losing what makes coaching work. AI used badly will damage the relationships those companies are built on. The gap between the two is widening, and most coaching firms we talk to are navigating it without much help.

That's a gap we want to help close. Alongside the product, we're building a learning layer for coaching firms, a private AI forum for founders, open sessions with specialist voices, and practical guidance on how to bring AI into a coaching business responsibly. Not the marketing kind of guidance. The kind that helps you answer the questions your clients, sponsors, and associates are already asking.

How you can help us

This doesn't say we've figured AI out. We haven't. None of us has.

What we hear most often is this. Coaches want AI that respects the craft help with the operational work, and the coach in the loop on anything client-facing. Coaching organisations selling into corporates need a platform that can pass procurement scrutiny without slowing the deal down. HR sponsors want proof that coaching works, surfaced
in a way they can take to their board, without seeing what was said inside any
individual session.

Almost everyone raises the same underlying concern. The pace of AI is faster than the pace of thinking about it. They want a partner who is moving fast on the operational work and slow on the ethical work, not the other way around.

We're going to keep listening, keep adjusting, keep being clear about what we don't know yet. Coaching is, after all, a profession built on the discipline of not pretending to know things. We're trying to build a technology company that holds itself to a similar standard.

When the evidence shifts, we'll adjust, and we'll be transparent about why. The coaches and coaching firms who chose to build this with us already know how we work. If you're considering joining us, you should know too.

One more thing

I started Delenta because I believed coaching changes lives, and the people doing that work deserved better tools than the duct-taped mess most of us were using. Six years later, what I believe most is that your profession matters more than ever, and AI doesn't change that. If anything, it makes it clearer.

What began as a social experiment has grown into a global coaching platform built around one principle: solve for the customer. We're bootstrapped, self-funded, UK-based, and owned by the team building it. There are no investors pushing us to extract more data or ship features the community hasn't asked for. That independence is the reason we can take positions like the ones in this document and stick to them.

We built Delenta-i with coaching organisations in our community, not in a lab. If you have questions, pushback, or things you'd want us to think about, write to us at info@delenta.com. We read everything.
